Portraits | "Digital Paintings"

Goal: A portrait in the truest sense. In other words, think of these portraits as digital paintings, similar in concept to paintings by the old masters (i.e. Rembrandt). The intent is to display your likeness in a classic and timeless manner. These portraits are not snapshots, but composed images planned out in great detail. Stylistically I tend towards low-key images, where lighting is used to focus the viewers attention on the eyes and face.

Experience: Depending on the plan, some sessions will be shot in studio and some on location. Considering our goal, several aspects of the session will be slightly different than others you might have had before. For one thing, there will be no "cheese" in the studio (I will not ask you to smile for every shot); instead we'll find a natural expression. In most cases I will direct you in how to sit and pose, as this has an intimate relationship with how the lights are setup.

As our goal is to create a digital painting, I will take time setting up lighting and designing the shot. Typically I will already have several lighting setups, poses, and locations planned out before you arrive. These plans will act as guidelines throughout the session, but will inevitably morph and change as we go (and I always welcome your input). A large part of the session will be experimenting, and building the image up one light at a time. All you need to do is relax and enjoy the easygoing pace.

Pricing: $300 per session. Pet sessions available at $150 per session.

Musicians

Goal: To create innovative, one-of-a-kind images for use as recital posters, CD covers, or website images. We can work together to come up with fun, cleaver, and professional photos for all your publicity needs.

Experience: As a violinist and singer who studied at the Eastman School of Music, I am deeply aware of musicians' needs for great photos. We can work together to tailor the session to your needs and how you are going to use the photos. In most cases we'll figure out fun ways to use your instrument as a prop, and can also use advanced post-processing techniques to create truly singular images.

Pricing: $250 per service. College students with ID: $100 per service.

Property | Landscape Photos

Goal: My aim is to provide you with professional artistic photos of your property or favorite haunt. Imagine having gallery quality photos of your cabin, mountain home, or vacation spot to hang on your wall. We can tailor the photos to fit your needs. In addition to conventional photos, offerings include HDR (high dynamic range) photos, panoramic photos (suitable for very large prints), HDR Panoramas, time lapses (photographic and videographic), black & white, and nighttime photos. In addition to personal uses, these photos can be tailored for legal, insurance, real estate, or other practical purposes.

Experience: One of the most important aspects of successful property and landscape photography is being on location and set up during times of good light. Typically the best light happens during the two "golden hours" every day: sunrise and sunset. In order to ensure we get the shot, and depending on the location, I may need to stay overnight to wait for sunrise. Other considerations include weather, time of year, use of photos, and distance to location.

Pricing: $250 per service. $0.20 per mile for travel from and to studio. Print costs are calculated per order needs.

Delivery: Session fee includes basic editing of all first cut photos, and advanced editing of select photos. Your photos can be delivered in a number of ways. For prints, it is recommended that I take them in to get printed to ensure the photos are reproduced properly and on the best paper (printing prices will be additional). I can also have the photos professionally framed and matted (additional). Other options include receiving the photos via CD, DVD, or by download.

My Guarantee: If for some reason you are not completely satisfied with the results of the session, another will be scheduled for free. Furthermore, as I am my biggest critic, if I am not satisfied with the result, I may ask for a follow-up session as well, provided you have the time. And if for any reason the photos don't work out, you will get your money back.
